Dorsoduro 1200 "Maxi-Motard" Aprilia

Aprilia Shiver 750 Buat Pasar Amerika

Sebanyak dua model motor Italia, yakni Aprilia 125
dan Scarabeo 200 sempat dijajal tester Em-Plus.

Aprilia RS 125

Ketika membetot tenaga Aprilia standar, dicapai kecepatan sampai 140 km/jam.

km/jam menuju 199 km/jam sedikit lama.

Seusai jajal akselerasi, coba menembus top speed. Saat grip gas diputar sampai
mentok, angka spidometer hanya mencapai 110 km/jam. Ini lantaran dibatasi oleh CDI limiter.

Aprilia Karya Anak Bangsa

Produk Baru Bermunculan, Motor Sport Makin Dilirik

New MegaPro pun terjepit dengan Byson serta New Scorpio.

Namun beberapa bulan berselang AHM mengumumkan bakal memboyong All New Honda CBR 150R dan CBR 250R.

Suzuki tetap yakin Thunder masih memiliki penggemar setia.

Kehadiran All New CBR 250R malah menggelitik para penggemar Kawasaki.

Meski begitu National Sales Manager PT Kawasaki Motor Indonesia (KMI) Freddy Basuki sumringah dengan kehadiran All New CBR 250R.

With the perfect riding position for total control, a powerful 130 hp engine and an incredibly nimble, class-beating chassis in true Aprilia tradition, the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 is the kind of bike that just begs you to twist open the throttle. A bike that is unbeatable in the bends - like all Dorsoduros - that also offers the high power performance of a genuine sports machine.
Superlative mechanicals and perfection in terms of chassis design are the hallmarks of all Aprilia machines, and the same is naturally true of the Dorsoduro 1200 which, in addition, also boasts extremely sporty and sophisticated looks, outstanding new levels of finish and trim, and levels of agility and smoothness never experienced before on a twin this size.

Powerful, agile and smooth, the Dorsoduro 1200 is powered by the all-new latest generation twin-cylinder engine, with the most advanced technology in the segment. The boisterous 90° V2 unleashes 130 hp of record-breaking power. True to Aprilia tradition, the chassis layout is simply without par in its class.
With essential lines oozing pure personality, the unmistakeable design of the new Dorsoduro 1200 makes it stand out in any crowd. The finish and trim set new standards for exclusiveness, with details such as the painted tail fairing, the two-tone frame and the dual exhaust with black heat shields.

The wind deflector and hand guards offer enhanced wind protection on a bike that is not just nimble in the bends, but is also capable of significant speed. Naturally, the Dorsoduro boasts class-beating technical solutions, too. Radial Brembo callipers, hydraulic clutch, Ride by Wire with 3 different engine maps and the Matrix instrument panel with on board computer are all elements setting the Dorsoduro apart as a unique and exclusive project. The Dorsoduro is also available with ABS and Aprilia Traction Control (ATC), for total fun in total safety.

The unique characteristics of the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 in detail:
• New 90° V-twin engine with four valves per cylinder, double overhead camshaft, liquid cooling and twin spark ignition;
• Triple map Ride by Wire technology (with Sport, Touring and Rain maps)

• Electronic fuel injection;
• Mixed gear/chain valve timing system;
• Exhaust system with three-way catalytic converter and oxygen sensor;
• Ultralight modular frame made from tubular steel trellis/aluminium castings offering outstanding torsional stiffness;
• Aluminium saddle mount;
• Aluminium swingarm with lateral shock absorber;
• Fully adjustable 43 mm upside-down front fork and piggy-back design rear monoshock;
• Brembo racing brake system with radial callipers.

DESIGN
Dorsoduro 1200 is a radical, outrageously agile and sporty bike. It makes no concessions whatsoever for ornamentation or for anything not directly functional in achieving total performance and riding pleasure. This is why all
body parts are cut down to the bare minimum; just like a proper race machine, the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 eliminates anything that is of no use to the rider. No frills, for a bike that prefers to put its superlative mechanicals and componentry on show instead. Every detail is minimalised and focused on pure function, such as the all-new hand guards and the motard-style race number panel, which also offers wind protection at higher speeds.

These elements complement the pure design of the Dorsoduro 1200 perfectly, with an outstanding attention to detail evident in features such as the two-tone paintwork of the frame, the tail fairing colour-coded with the rest of the body elements and the new dual exhaust with black heat shields. Even the 15 litre fuel tank is perfectly integrated into the sleek forms of the Dorsoduro 1200.
Dorsoduro 1200 a bike with the soul of a pure motard racer. The ultra-narrow mid section of the bike - the area that interacts most with the movements of the rider's body when riding hard - emphasises the extreme compactness of the bike itself. The rider becomes an integral part of the machine and can move freely in the slender and perfectly straight saddle to dominate the brutal power of the engine in all situations. None of the typical acrobatics of the motard style are beyond the reach of this bike.

THE 1200 cc V90 ENGINE: THE STATE OF THE ART IN TWIN CYLINDER TECHNOLOGY
The Aprilia V90 is a completely new design. It is a modern, technologically advanced unit with a highly oversquare cylinder geometry for a markedly sporty temperament and smooth power delivery. Every internal element of the Dorsoduro 1200 has been designed to optimise power delivery and make full use of the incredible 130 hp unleashed by the engine at 8700 rpm. Every single detail is conceived to complement the outrageously acrobatic character of the bike.

The main characteristics of this ultra-sophisticated engine are as follows:
• 90° V-twin architecture;
• Triple map Ride by Wire technology (with Sport, Touring and Rain maps)
• Highly oversquare bore/stroke ratio;
• Offset cylinders for maximum lateral compactness;
• Four valves per cylinder;
• Double overhead camshafts driven by a mixed chain/gear valve timing system;
• Twin spark ignition for smooth but full-bore power delivery;
• Electronic fuel injection with dual throttle bodies;
• Stick-coils integrated in spark plug boots;
• Three-way catalytic converter with oxygen sensor;
• Hydraulically operated clutch.

The latest generation injection system uses micro-nebuliser injectors. In conjunction with optimised fluid dynamics, this solution ensures ideal combustion, for an engine that is not only powerful but also extremely clean. Twin spark ignition also contributes to cleaner emissions, as well as ensuring totally smooth power delivery.
With sophisticated electronic engine management, the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 is the new benchmark for technology and performance in its class. Aprilia was the first manufacturer to believe in the potential of Ride by Wire, a highly sophisticated technology that helps the rider extract every ounce of performance from the motorcycle. The electronic throttle management system used in the Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 represents the current state of the art. Even more precise and sophisticated maps ensure optimised engine management, keeping the engine in the perfect conditions to deliver maximum acceleration at all times for a riding experience unlike anything you've ever seen before. This solution also ensures smoother, fuller power delivery at low and medium engine speeds, for optimised engine efficiency even in low load, partial throttle conditions. With its triple maps (Rain, Touring and Sport), the bike has three distinct personalities that the rider can choose from at any time to suit every possible condition and preference. Simply close the throttle and press a button to choose the desired setting.
SPORT: extreme, for when you want to put yourself to the test with immediate and direct explosive power.

TOURING: smooth, for making full use of the shattering power of the 1200 cc engine in all conditions.

RAIN: balanced, with power reigned in to 100 hp for maximum fun even in poor grip or wet conditions.
With its state-of-art technology, the Aprilia V90 unleashes class-beating levels of power. No other maxi motard comes close to the performance of the Dorsoduro 1200: with 130 hp at 8,700 rpm and a maximum torque of 115 Nm at 7,200 rpm, this engine sets new records for the motard genre. To further emphasise the performance of the engine, a new 2-into-1-into-2 exhaust system has been designed specifically for the bike. Made entirely from stainless steel, the generous internal volume of the system ensures a spine-tingling and distinctive sound.

THE FRAME: FEATHER-LIGHT BUT ULTRA-STIFF
Aprilia bikes have always been considered as the benchmark for chassis excellence by those in the know. And true to tradition, Dorsoduro 1200 is one of the most effective, best balanced bikes in its class. While tailored for total riding fun, as with all Aprilia bikes, the chassis layout of the Dorsoduro also earns respect for its formidable dynamic balance. With the Dorsoduro,
extreme agility does mean a nervous temperament, and its highly effective chassis layout ensures total precision and a sensation of being directly connected to the front wheel. And this is something that can only be said of very few motards out they. The mixed frame design, constructed with a sturdy tubular steel trellis mated to lateral aluminium plates, is highly acclaimed by both enthusiasts and experts alike, while the aluminium saddle mount contributes to lightening the bike. The product of Aprilia's experience in the world Supermoto championship, the frame offers perfect balance in terms of stiffness to deliver supreme handling, even with the explosive power of the new 1200 cc V90.

The lateral and steeply raked position of the rear shock absorber is a precise engineering choice, determined after testing numerous different configurations. This solution frees up precious space for the generously sized exhaust headers, which are needed to fully exploit the potential of the 1200 cc engine. This made it possible to optimise the layout of the exhaust system without adding unnecessarily to the length of the bike, while also protecting the shock absorber - a vital component in its own right - from high temperatures.

SUSPENSION: PERFORMANCE UNDER CONTROL
The suspension of the Dorsoduro 1200 has been designed to fully exploit the incredible performance of the engine and offer the best solutions that anyone could ever desire in an extreme motard. The 43 mm Sachs upside-down fork with shell-cast calliper brackets features adjustable spring preload and hydraulic compression and rebound damping. In addition to permitting total adjustability, this extremely sophisticated component offers class-beating progressiveness and a full 160 mm of wheel travel, in perfect keeping with the supermoto riding style.

The side-mounted Sachs gas shock absorber with separate canister is
pivoted directly onto the swingarm in a cantilever configuration and features adjustable spring preload and hydraulic compression and rebound damping. A component allowing experienced riders to explore the full potential of the bike's performance, even on the track. The rear wheel stroke is 155mm, again in line with the supermoto philosophy that aims for an effective, controlled suspension but with a long stroke.

BRAKES: RACING TECHNOLOGY - ALSO AVAILABLE WITH ABS
The Aprilia Dorsoduro 1200 adopts the state of the art in brake technology: at the front are 4-piston radial Brembo callipers gripping 320 mm floating discs.
The 240 mm rear disc is also braked by a Brembo calliper - in this case a single piston unit.
Both the front and rear brake systems employ aeronautical grade metal braided hoses, which eliminate the undesirable pressure fluctuations of conventional hoses for maximum braking precision and truly class-beating stopping performance.
Dorsoduro 1200 is also available with a two-channel ABS system, which can be deactivated by the user directly from the instrument panel. This ABS system is specifically calibrated to let the rider fully exploit the power of the brakes and the grip of the tyres in the dry, so as not to detract from the immense fun of this bike.

The Dorsoduro 1200 is also the only maxi-motard available today with Aprilia Traction Control (ATC): an exclusive traction control system
working in conjunction with the sophisticated ABS system, which allows the rider to make full use of the performance of the exuberant 1200 cc engine, to tackle even the most challenging terrain and most difficult conditions in safety. When active, the system offers three different selectable traction control levels.

- Level 1: for an extreme riding experience and maximum fun and
adrenaline, when curbing the incredible power of the engine is the last thing on your mind.
- Level 2: for total control in all terrain conditions and maximum thrill
factor.
- Level 3: ideal for tackling challenging conditions, such as slippery roads
where grip is poor.

COMPONENTRY: TOP OF THE CLASS
Motards are by definition essential or even spartan. This, however, does not mean having to do without class-beating premium content. Aprilia moves the bar even higher for its rivals with top class features and components. The following list contains only the main features offered:
- Matrix instrument panel: the mixed digital-analogue instrument panel receives information via the CAN line and, with its own dedicated event log memory, is an integral part of the self-diagnostic system. The ultra-compact unit boasts a modern design and is extremely light. All functions are accessible from a control on the handlebar. The LED backlight - white for the analogue area and red for the digital display - has three different brightness settings.

- The anodised aluminium tapered handlebar is an unequivocal reference to competition supermoto bikes. An incredibly light component, designed to guarantee top dynamic control of the bike.
- Hydraulically operated clutch. Ensuring consistently precise engagement and exemplary smoothness, the clutch is self-adjusting and, as a result, maintenance-free.

Aprilia have announced the 2010 RSV4 R, a cheaper version of the RSV4 Factory. Instead of Öhlins suspension, the RSV4 R gets a Showa fork and Sachs shock, its 60-degree V4 makes do with aluminium parts instead of the Factory’s magnesium bits, and the chassis isn’t adjustable for swingarm pivot point, steering head angle and engine position.

The significantly cheaper RSV4 R’s Showa/Sachs suspension is fully adjustable and the engine still produces 180bhp (though we suspect it may not be able to rev as high and/or as quickly as the RSV4 Factory’s engine). Also, with its ride-by-wire electronics, the bike still has three ride modes – Race, Sport and Road – for optimised power delivery for whatever conditions you might encounter.

Plastic instead of carbonfibre trim, aluminium instead of forged magnesium wheels and a bit more weight the R weighs 184kg, about five kilos more than the Factory

Aprilia RSV4 R brings the technology and unique character of the V4 that redefined sports performance on the track within the reach of all enthusiasts. With the advent of the R version, the Aprilia RSV4 - the bike that took the world by storm and set new standards for sports performance, both on the road and on the circuits of the SBK World Championship - is now accessible to an even broader group of enthusiasts.

RSV4 R maintains the same features that make the Aprilia RSV4 project so unique: the narrow 180 hp V4 engine, Ride-by-Wire integrated electronic management, dual injectors, race bred frame and suspension and extreme compactness.

Christened by Max Biaggi, the Aprilia RSV4 R is the latest product of the project that has brought Aprilia back to the pinnacle of the motorcycle world, both on the world's circuits and on the road.

A revolutionary project - starting from a blank piece of paper and drawing from the marque's unparalleled success on the racetrack - that led to the inception of the RSV4 SBK, the bike that Biaggi rode straight to victory in the World Superbike Championship, and a production bike which, in its Factory guise dedicated to circuit racing professionals, redefined the limits for the supersports genre.

Aprilia now presents the RSV4 R, a bike born from the same project in a new, more accessible guise, conceived to bring this fantastic machine within reach of expert riders who want to experience its technological supremacy.

To offer you the same sensations as you carve a perfect line from apex to apex that Max Biaggi experiences on the track in the World Superbike Championship, the Aprilia RSV4 R maintains all the features that make the superbike project so unique:

• COMPACTNESS: Minimised dimensions and weight, a 65° V4 engine as narrow as a twin, a chassis architecture defined around the engine and an effective but essential fairing.

• ENGINE PERFORMANCE: Class leading power, the torque of a twin, combined with the smooth power delivery and flexibility of a four cylinder, and dual injectors per cylinder. Technical and architectural solutions worthy of a genuine race prototype.

• ELECTRONICS: Second generation Ride by Wire with multiple maps (track, sport and road).

• CHASSIS ARCHITECTURE: Class beating solutions true to Aprilia traditions. The aluminium frame is built around the engine for maximum effectiveness both on the track and on the road. Suspension is completely adjustable.

• ITALIAN DESIGN: The unique style of the RSV4 R is the product of a painstaking design process and was conceived and developed in Aprilia's own design centre. The styling solutions enhance the bike's class beating compactness, which is further emphasised by the spectacular, ultra-short tail fairing.

For those who can live with Showa/Sachs (instead of Öhlins) suspension, aluminium (instead of magnesium) components, plastic (instead of carbonfibre) parts in the bodywork, and a non-adjustable chassis (instead of one that allows you to change the swingarm’s pivot point, steering head angle and even the engine position…), the Aprilia RSV4 R is probably a brilliant deal. You still get the same sharp styling, the same 180bhp V4 engine, and the same ride-by-wire electronics as the higher-spec RSV4 Factory, but at a price that’s about 25% lower.

MotorBox recently had the opportunity to test ride the RSV4 R at the Estoril circuit, in Portugal, and here are some excerpts from what they have to say about the bike:

Aprilia aim to sell around 2,000 units of the RSV4 in Europe in 2010, so launching a ‘cheaper’ version of the RSV4 Factory was probably a must, in order to achieve those sales figures. And for Aprilia fans who want a bike that can work on the track as well as on the street, the RSV4 R is just great, because it still retains most of the best bits of the Factory version.

Cerchi in alluminio forgiato, anodizzati.

Cambio a sei rapporti ravvicinati.

APRILIA RS 50 and APRILIA RS4 125
Aprilia's small supersports bikes have been completely revised. Two models dedicated for young enthusiasts who want their first experience in the motorcycling world to be with a proper bike.

* Aprilia RS4 marked a milestone in the evolution of the 125 cc motorcycle.
* For the first time ever, the sportiest bike available for 16 year olds was a 4-stroke.
* For the youngest riders of all, the Aprilia RS 50 embodies all of Aprilia's technology in a genuine racing replica in just 50 cc.

Aprilia has always been the undisputed leader in the 50 and 125 cc supersports segment, pioneering innovative concepts and solutions and setting trends for its rivals to follow.

The Aprilia RS4 125 is the natural successor and most advanced evolution to date of the Aprilia RS 125, the bike that has dominated the 125 cc sports class for years, which set the benchmark for the one-eighth litre sports segment and which is still today the most highly sought after machine among riders competing in the Sport Production category.

Aprilia RS4 125 introduces the highly advanced, all-new 4 stroke powerplant to the sports segment, while adopting styling and technical solutions inherited from the RSV4, the superbike that led Aprilia to victory in the WSBK 2010 championship.

The most significant characteristics of the Aprilia RS 50 and Aprilia RS4 are:

* RS4 125 - single cylinder liquid cooled 125 cc 4-stroke with electronic injection, 4 valves and double overhead camshafts (DOHC)

characteristics in common:

* extremely stiff aluminium perimeter frame derived from racing experience
* 41 mm upside down fork
* front brake with 300 mm disc and radial four piston calliper
* Superbike inspired analogue/digital instrument panel
* fairings derived directly from RSV4 project for total aesthetic coherence with the SBK world champion

DESIGN

The livery and eye-catching forms of the Aprilia RS 50 and RS4 125 echo the looks of the Factory version of the Aprilia RSV4 supersports bike. And the RS 50 and RS4 125 share more than just a family resemblance with the most hardcore street version the bike dominating the world SBK championship.

The design of the fairings and tank, the unique looks of the front end, with the headlights suspended over the gaping air intakes, and the spectacular tapered tail fairing are identical to their counterparts on 1000 cc supersports model that set new standards in terms of style and technical content for the superbike segment.

Extensive aerodynamic studies have minimised surface areas without compromising wind protection, and the fairings showcase the superlative mechanicals of the Aprilia RS 50 and Aprilia RS4 125 rather than conceal them. As a result, the frame and engine are not hidden away but proudly flaunted as fundamental elements of the design of Aprilia's new small supersports models. With the triple headlight, the Aprilia RS 50 and RS4 have a decidedly aggressive look that lends a unique character to the entire front end. The LED taillight merges stunningly into the ultra-compact tail fairing and offers excellent luminosity. Even from behind, the Aprilia RS4 125 is absolutely unmistakable.

The product of extensive wind tunnel testing and race experience, the fairing offers excellent wind protection together with superb aerodynamic efficiency. And as well as contributing to the extremely aggressive looks of the bike, the top fairing and tail fairing also maximise performance in terms of speed.

ENGINES

With the new RS 50 and RS4 125, Aprilia confirms its global leadership in the small capacity sports bike segment, creating models that exceed the expectations of even the most discerning rider.

The sophisticated chassis architecture of the Aprilia RS 50 and RS4 125 is complemented by state of the art engines.
The single cylinder 50 cc unit developed by Aprilia for the RS 50 is a water cooled two-stroke with reed valve induction. The lubrication uses a separate mixing system with a variable capacity volumetric pump. The six speed gearbox lets the rider make full use of the performance of this class beating engine.

The Aprilia RS4 is powered by an all new 125 cc water cooled 4 stroke single cylinder engine with four valves and electronic engine boasting a sophisticated double overhead camshaft (DOHC) valve timing system. This state of the art engine produces the maximum power output permitted for the class with a smooth, linear delivery and ecologically - as it meets even the strictest emissions regulations in effect.

With a six speed gearbox allowing the rider to make full use of the power available in all conditions, the Aprilia RS4 offers unbeatable performance in its class not just in terms of absolute power at high engine speeds, but also in terms of usable power band, minimised vibration and outstanding mechanical reliability.

The product of a cutting edge design, the new single cylinder 125 cc unit features dry sump lubrication making it extremely light and compact, allowing Aprilia's engineers to develop a class beating chassis layout.

CHASSIS

The RS 50 and RS4 125 stand head and shoulders above the competition for their superlative chassis layout: developed on the basis of Aprilia's outstanding successes in WSBK and GP 125, the frame consists of die cast aluminium spars with crossed reinforcement ribs. With its state of the art design, this extremely lightweight structure offers exceptional torsional stiffness.
The front suspension also boasts a class beating layout, with a sturdy 41 mm upside fork, red anodised stanchion clamps and a wheel travel of 110 mm, while at the rear is a monoshock linked directly to the asymmetric swingarm.

Both the Aprilia RS 50 and RS4 125 boast class beating brake systems: each bike uses a 300 mm steel disc at the front, gripped by a four piston radial calliper, and a 220 mm disc at the rear with a single piston calliper.
The 17” wheels are shod with 100/80 rubber up front and a 130/70 tyre at the rear.

STANDARD EQUIPMENT AND FEATURES

The multifunctional analogue/digital instrument panel with LCD display draws directly from Aprilia's experience in the Superbike class. The split 6-spoke design of the wheels further emphasises the purposeful character of Aprilia's latest small capacity sports bikes.

On Aprilia RS4, one additional detail underscores the level of sophistication of the bike: the exhaust, which is unmistakably inspired by competition machines, is completely integrated within the lower part of the fairing. A solution that is not just visually effective, but which also contributes significantly to the dynamics of the bike by helping to centralise masses.

The passenger saddle is yet another example of the extreme level of sophistication of these new bikes from Aprilia. Instead of fiddly screws, a practical quick release button allows the passenger seat to be exchanged with the tail fairing cover in an instant to transform the bike from two seat to single seat configuration

Aprilia RSV4 R Masuk Indonesia Februari 2011

"Harga itu sudah on the road," jelas Nugroho. Tertarik

Aprilia Recall RSV4

Versi Murah Superbike Aprilia

Aprilia Pamer Supermoto Terbaru

MILAN- Aprilia baru saja merilis gambar perdana Dorsoduro 1200 terbaru.

Motor Sport Aprilia Bakal Berondong Indonesia Asal..

Aprilia motorcycles, motorscooters & more...

Aprilia is Europe’s second largest producer of motorcycles and scooters and the only company offering a complete range on two wheels.

 In just over 30 years, Aprilia has grown from a small company producing bicycles to become a reference point for the Italian and European motorcycle industry for the results obtained, production organisation, technological research, design and human resources management.
A success largely deriving from the great passion for motorcycles, determination and extraordinarily far-sighted business intuitions of the company’s President, Ivano Beggio.
Passion, enthusiasm and technology - these are the distinctive characteristics of Aprilia, a company which loves a challenge and always aims to win, both on the tracks and on the market.
Aprilia has always successfully interpreted and anticipated trends on the motorcycle market, producing innovative products able to satisfy the demands and expectations of two-wheeled transport users.
The company is based in Noale (VE) and has five factories (four in Italy and one in San Marino) and seven foreign branches (five in Europe, one in the USA and one in Brazil).
During 2000, total production amounted to about 240 thousand scooters and motorcycles with capacities of between 50 and 1000 cc.
Turnover in 2000 exceeded the 1,100 billion lira mark, 54% coming from abroad. The company currently has 1,750 employees, together with a further 3,500 jobs in the spin-off sectors.
Between 1985 (the first year of the company’s racing participation) and 2000, Aprilia won 15 World Speed Championship Titles (a further two World Trials Championship titles were won in 1992), with a total of 116 race wins (111 World Championship GP wins and five victories in the Superbike class where Aprilia made its debut in 1999).

The extraordinary results achieved in racing have kept pace with success on the market. In the last three years, sales have almost doubled and the high powered motorcycle sector (in which Aprilia has been represented with the RSV 1000 since 1998) is gaining ever more weight with respect to the scooter sector (which today accounts for 80% of sales).
The common denominator of all Aprilia products is the high technological and style content, together with use of the most advanced solutions to protect the environment.
In 2000, Aprilia’s more than ten years of experience on this front led to production of the Ditech engine (Direct Injection Technology) featuring an electronically controlled direct injection system. This reduces fuel and oil consumption by 30%, hydrocarbon emissions by 80% and carbon monoxide emissions by ten times. All without compromising on the brilliant performance and pleasure of a comfortable and efficient ride.
For Aprilia, 2000 was an important year. As well as consolidating its market shares, it also stepped into the limelight with acquisition of two historic names in Italian motorcycling - Moto Guzzi and Laverda. Enthusiastically promoted by Ivano Beggio, these take-overs are part of a plan which, focussing on the great tradition of Italian motorcycling, aims to create a centre of attraction able to take on the challenge of tracks and markets throughout the world with renewed energy.

Spyder 3 Wheelers

Three-Wheeler Menu

Introducing the Can-Am Spyder Roadster

This three-wheel vehicle, with two wheels in the front and one in the rear, offers a completely new and stunning look.
    Can Am Spyder Med
  • Powered by a proven
  • 990cc V Twin engine designed and manufactured by BRP-Rotax, Spyder roadster, with its unique Y-architecture, can be described as part motorcycle and part convertible sports car.
  • A true paradigm shift, the Spyder roadster offers a
  • balance of performance and peace of mind with features like the Vehicle Stability System (VSS), engineered in conjunction with Bosch, which includes anti-lock brakes, traction control and stability control systems
  • BRP's reputation was built on its ability to innovate and design products for powersports enthusiasts. After more than five years of research, the Can-Am Spyder roadster is now delivering on the company's promise to offer a complete line of recreational motorized products in four segments: on snow, on water, as well as both off and on road.

Not a Motorcycle

The Spyder feels like the fastest ATV you've ever ridden. Just turn the handlebars in the direction you want to go and let the tires do the rest. The Can-Am Spyder has electrically boosted power steering, so the steering effort is far less than you'd expect.
Like a motorcycle, you twist the handlebar-mounted throttle and go. Shift the sequential five-speed gearbox (complete with reverse gear) with your left foot, or you can choose the optional gearbox with electronic actuation. You operate the brake pedal with your right foot.
There's a surprising amount of cornering grip. The twin front tires are 165/65R14s, and they're controlled by upper and lower wishbones that offer 5.7 inches of travel. The drive tire is a 225/50R15, and the swing-arm and mono-shock also deliver 5.7 inches of travel.
The Spyder has a 68-inch wheelbase and a front track of 51.5 inches, plus it weighs 697 pounds (dry). You've got 106 horsepower to play with, and the broad power band of a V-Twin engine makes the Spyder very tractable.

The Ride Says It All

If you're afraid that the Spyder might skate out from underneath you, don't be. There's a carlike safety net of electronics to keep you on the road. It starts with antilock brakes and electronic brakeforce distribution. The Spyder also has Bosch stability control that cuts the throttle and applies the brakes to stop a slide, and it's calibrated for an anti-rollover function. There's even traction control.
We tried sliding the Spyder around on the gravel and discovered that you can't. And if you're thinking about defeating the stability control, there is no off switch.
The Spyder is fun on a winding road, it has great stability at speed and will reach in excess of 120 mph. It likes you to shift your body weight to help it find the right line in corners.

Because it's a three-wheeler, the Spyder will go around corners faster than you realize, and neither rain-swept pavement nor oily freeway ramps will ever hold the same terror they do when you're riding a two-wheeler. You're in the open air, yet there's a generous amount of room for two-up riding and a lockable trunk to bring along your stuff.
